PNC Bank:
A Tradition of Success

Each of the past four years PNC Bank has increased their employee giving dollars raised for the United Way. This year they have continued this remarkable tradition of success by extending their streak to 5 years. Since 2006, their employee giving to the United Way has increased by an incredible 43%. This year, the PNC campaign team, led by Monica Burch (Chair) and Kelly Cobb (Vice-Chair), was able to achieve this great milestone by focusing on attracting new leadership givers ($1,000+) and utilizing over 17 information sessions held at various PNC locations throughout the region to educate employees on the needs of the community. These two strategies proved to be the difference as they not only increased their overall employee giving, but also increased the dollars raised through leadership giving by 6.9%. Thank you PNC Bank for continuing to Live United!

Mitchell & Titus’ Midas Touch

Mitchell & Titus’ successful 2010 United Way campaign can be attributed to one key strategy – the personal approach utilized by their CEO, Michael Horsey, and their Employee Campaign Chair, Johnnie Simon. At their kick off, Mr. Horsey set the tone for their campaign when he conveyed a strong personal message that everyone deserves a helping hand in their pursuit of success and happiness. This theme was continued throughout their campaign as Mr. Simon organized opportunities for staff to engage in open discussions of how the United Way supports the communities where they live and work. These efforts, along with incentives and give away items, were the catalyst for an amazing 50% increase in employee giving over last year. Thank you Mitchell & Titus for sharing the United Way story!

Congreso de Latinos Unidos, Inc:
Having Fun With United Way

Congreso de Latinos Unidos, Inc., a United Way Community Impact agency, recently concluded their United Way campaign with an impressive employee participation rate of over 90%. To achieve these incredible results the Co-Employee Campaign Chairs, Andrew Judd and Michelle Martinez, focused on creating innovative and exciting ways to have fun during their campaign.

To kick things off they had a well attended dance party with great food and music. Also at their kickoff, they were able to drive home the United Way message by having speakers from other nonprofit organizations come and talk to them about how the United Way helps them. One of the most innovative things they did in their campaign was to design an electronic display for all employees to see how their campaign was progressing in real-time. We truly thank Congreso de Latinos Unidos, Inc. for being committed to United Way through their exciting employee giving campaigns, but even more so through their outstanding work in the community!

Citizens Bank Co-Chairs, Rich Campbell and Greg Stanbach

Citizens Bank:
Another Successful Campaign

The leadership exhibited by Dan Fitzpatrick, CEO of Citizens Bank, when he addressed Citizens Bank staff at their campaign kickoff provided the spark for another successful campaign for Citizen Bank. Supporting Mr. Fitzpatrick were this year’s Co-Chairs, Rich Campbell and Greg Stanbach, who organized many fun activities such as jeans days, bake sales, and raffles that got employees excited and involved in their campaign. In the end, this coordinated approach to their campaign proved to be a great success as they met and surpassed their totals from last year. Thank you for Citizens Bank!

A Day of Caring Success Story:
Jefferson Wells & SHARE

For their United Way campaign this year Jefferson Wells decided to try something a bit different. To drive home the LIVE UNITED message, they decided to incorporate a Day of Caring into their campaign. For their Day of Caring they partnered with SHARE (Self-Help and Resource Exchange), which is a nonprofit organization serving a regional network of community organizations engaged in food distribution, education, and advocacy. A team of 13 Jefferson Wells volunteers went to one of SHARE’s distribution centers earlier this month and had a great time working in their warehouse. The team spent the day packaging sweet potatoes, oranges, and FiberOne bars for local families and consolidated boxes and cardboard into bundles (which SHARE then recycles for $100 per bundle). The team had such a great time volunteering with SHARE that they are already planning additional Days of Caring with SHARE for 2011. Thank you Jefferson Wells for Living United!

The 16th Annual Martin Luther King Day of Service

The 16th Annual
Martin Luther King Day of Service

At Girard College on January 17th, United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania is partnering with the JAWS Youth Fund and Global Citizen/King Day of Service to host the 16th Annual Martin Luther King Day of Service. Every year United Way hosts a service project at Philadelphia’s King Day of Service Signature Site which in years past has included collection drives, making chalkboards for daycare centers, and educational trainings.

The theme for this year’s event is “Kick it Up for Recess!” Given the increased attention surrounding the alarming rate of childhood obesity, United Way, with the support of its partners, will be coordinating donations of new and very gently used sports equipment and fitness materials to promote healthy development and physical activity for youth in the Greater Philadelphia area.
