2009 Champions for Impact Awards

Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania presented
its annual Citizen Volunteer of the Year Award to Lon R. Greenberg, Chairman
of UGI
AmeriGas, on Friday,
May 1st at the Champions
for Impact Awards Breakfast at the Hyatt Regency
Philadelphia
at Penn’s Landing.
The event also honored three community leaders who have played a significant role in advancing United Way’s goals in the areas of education, income and health.
State Rep. Tony Payton of Philadelphia was honored for his education advocacy work, the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of the Delaware Valley for its work in helping individuals and families maintain their financial stability, and Diane Menio, executive director of the Center for Advocacy for the Rights and Interests of the Elderly was honored for her lifetime of advocacy on behalf of senior citizens.
Samuel Staten Jr., business manager of Laborers International Union Local 332 was honored with this year’s Irv Sannit Labor Award, and the Chairman’s Award was presented to Anthony Conti of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC, the chairman of the 2008 United Way Campaign.

2009 Champions for Impact Awards
Western Montgomery County
United Way also hosted a special celebration of volunteers in the western Montgomery County area on Thursday, May 7th with a luncheon at the Spring Hollow Golf Club in Spring City. The event honored leaders of the 2008 United Way Campaign in the area formerly served by United Way of Western Montgomery County, which merged with UWSEPA in 2007. The 2009 Sally Lee Leadership Award was given to Gail Wellington, a longtime United Way volunteer in the county.
