(Philadelphia, PA) United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania proudly announced its 2007 campaign results during the annual Champions for Impact Awards ceremony held at the Hyatt Regency Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing on May 2nd. The final total of $54 million meets their ambitious goal set at the start of the campaign in September. This impressive amount will help to advance the common good throughout the region.United Way’s Champions for Impact Awards was held during National Volunteer Week and honored many local companies, agencies and volunteers for their exceptional dedication and support of our region. The highlight of the event was the presentation of the Citizen Volunteer of the Year Award, United Way’s highest honor, to Sharmain Matlock-Turner, President and Executive Director of the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition.
The Champions for Impact Awards also marked Alba Martinez’ final day
as President and CEO of the organization. Interim President and CEO, Jill Michal
was on hand to congratulate Ms. Martinez and thank all of the volunteers and
donors who contributed to this successful campaign.
“This is a momentous day for United Way as we head into a year of exciting change,” said Ms. Michal. “The generosity of the entire community will allow United Way to continue our efforts to benefit children, families and seniors throughout the region.”
During the past year, United Way began implementation of a new funding process designed to find and invest in the community agencies with which the organization can partner most effectively to reach United Way’s focused goals for the region.
“I am so proud of our community and I am so proud of all of you. Together we have generated an important achievement that will have a lasting impact on the lives of so many people. Let me thank you all for your hard work and leadership. Personally I am deeply grateful,” said Matt Espe, Chairman and CEO of IKON Office Solutions. During the ceremony, Matt “passed the torch” to incoming 2008 Campaign Chair, Tony Conti, Managing Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.
