UNITED WAY LAUNCHES YEAR LONG VOLUNTEER INITIATIVE:
Hundreds of Volunteers Gather in Juniata Park for Service Event
(Philadelphia, PA) – With the help of over 700 volunteers from area
companies, United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania launched 365 Days
of Caring,
an initiative to inspire businesses from around the region to participate in
service projects that advance the common good. On Thursday, September 17th,
volunteers gathered in the Juniata section of Philadelphia to clean, paint
and restore parks in the area to benefit the community.
United Way’s goal for 365 Days of Caring is to match 7,000 employee volunteers with service projects over the next year. With 4,000 volunteers already set to participate by the end of the month, United Way is well on their way to meeting that goal.
“The commitment that we’ve seen from the business community has been inspirational,” said Jill Michal, President and CEO of United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania. “The caring power donated to United Way through area organizations is one of the most sustainable sources of volunteerism for United Way. Simply put, we would not be able to succeed without area businesses that encourage volunteerism, or the employees who take time out of their busy days to go to work for the community.”
Volunteerism is the cornerstone of United Way’s LIVE UNITED movement. Because United Way’s mission requires year-round work to make sure that children are succeeding in school, families have the income to remain independent and seniors have the supports they need for healthy aging, United Way needs the help of volunteers to support that goal by donating their time and talent at area agencies – year round
As part of 365 Days of Caring, United Way is asking area organizations to volunteer as a team to advance the common good in their community. For more information on how to get involved visit: www.LIVEUNITEDsepa.org/daysofcaring
United Way’s 365 Days of Caring is sponsored by Vanguard, Deloitte, Lockheed Martin, PA Lumbermans, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, ACME Markets, Independence Blue Cross, McNeil Consumer Healthcare, J&J Merck and UPS.
